What is Glutathione?Glutathione (abbreviated as GSH, CAS: 70-18-8), chemical name: γ-L-Glutamyl-L-cysteinylglycine. It is an endogenous tripeptide condensed from three amino acids: glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine. It naturally exists in animals, plants and human cells. The commercially available raw material generally refers to reduced glutathione. It appears as white crystalline powder with good water solubility. Its molecular structure contains sulfhydryl group (-SH), which serves as its core functional group. This ingredient is listed in the Inventory of Existing Cosmetic Ingredients (2021 Edition), and can be used as raw material in cosmetics, health food, biochemical research and other fields.

What is the difference between reduced glutathione and oxidized glutathione?
Reduced GSH has free sulfhydryl groups, applicable for cosmetics; its aqueous solution is prone to oxidation. Oxidized GSSG is a dimer without free sulfhydryl groups, and cannot be directly used as cosmetic raw material. Its aqueous solution is more stable and mostly used for scientific research.
What about the solubility of Glutathione?
Freely soluble in water; slightly soluble in dilute ethanol, insoluble in ethanol and ether. The aqueous solution has poor stability and is easy to oxidize. It is recommended to prepare the solution freshly for formulation.
